The device has a subtraction unit generating a voltage related to a parameter e.g. voltage between ground (M) and a positive terminal of a battery (16), to generate a logical signal representing the parameter to be transmitted on a communication bus (12) using a generation unit (32). The signal`s logical levels are determined relative to a reference electrode (m) of an alternator-starter, where the electrode is remote from the ground. An independent claim is also included for a data transmission network having a measuring device for a motor vehicle.
