PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic transmission for a vehicle capable of operating an operation lever by actuating an assist force generating means even in a case when a parking lock mechanism is manually unlocked when an ignition is OFF. SOLUTION: A standby power supply system B is mounted independently from the ignition G to the assist force generating means 15, and the operation lever 1 can be operated by actuating the assist force generating means 15 even when the ignition G is OFF, to supply the power supply to the assist generating means 15 through the standby power supply system B when a manual unlock detecting means S1 detects that the parking lock mechanism is manually unlocked by a manual unlocking means 27. Thus the control force of the operation lever 1 is reduced, and the switching operation of a range can be simplified. As the manually unlocked state is detected by a push switch mounted at a lower part of a release lever 25 as the manual-unlock detecting means S1, the detection can be surely performed.
