<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid polymer fuel cell hardly causing damage of a membrane-electrode assembly attendant on the change of water content. <P>SOLUTION: The solid polymer fuel cell has the membrane-electrode assembly/a gas diffusion composite having a catalyst layer and a gas diffusion layer in this order on the anode side and the cathode side of a solid polymer electrolyte membrane. At least one catalyst layer is interposed between the solid polymer electrolyte membrane having a larger area than the catalyst layer and the gas diffusion layer, the peripheral part of the catalyst layer is positioned on the inside than the peripheral parts of the solid polymer electrolyte membrane and the gas diffusion layer, the solid polymer electrolyte membrane and the gas diffusion layer are made of resin having smaller degree of swelling to water than that of the solid polymer electrolyte membrane, and assembled through a fixing layer formed so as to surround the catalyst layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
