<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cache data between a high power disk drive and a low power disk drive by use of the low power disk drive in various types of data storage systems to reduce power consumption and an access time. <P>SOLUTION: A drive control module 650 includes a hard disk controller (HDC) 653 used for controlling one or both of the LPDD 648 and the HPDD 644. A buffer 656 stores data related to control of the HPDD 644 or the LPDD 648, or positively buffers data between the HPDD 644 and the LPDD 648, and optimizes data block size to increase data transfer speed.
