PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a distance to a green as well as the direction of the green on a display of a portable handset in a golf course so as to inform each of the players. SOLUTION: A portable measuring/display apparatus is carried by each golf player 3, and comprises a means for utilizing a satellite positioning system and finding the distance from the portable measuring/display apparatus to the green 1 and an orientationθg of the green 1 relative to the true north N; a means of finding an orientation of the portable measuring/display apparatus relative to the magnetic north; a means of finding the direction of the green 1, relative to the portable measuring/display apparatus from the orientation of the portable measuring/display apparatus relative to the magnetic north and the orientationθg of the green 1 relative to the true north based on a deflection angleθr between the true north and the magnetic north, and a means for displaying the direction of the green and the distance to the green.
