The method is for fuel metering for an internal combustion engine (1) with direct fuel injection, especially in the starting phase, whereby in dependence upon at least one parameter a mass of fuel is metered and injected. As a parameter, a directly measured induction pipe pressure is used. The execution of the method may be from the first ignition of an operating cycle of the engine. The measured induction pipe pressure is used directly for the dosing of the fuel mass. The environment temperature and/or pressure can be used as additional parameters. An independent claim is included for a device for the metering of fuel which has an induction pressure sensor (9) connected to a dosing device (7) determining the fuel mass.
