PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device to install the mechanism of an ashtray or glove compartment for a vehicle according to the request by introducing common components to main parts constituting the ashtray or glove compartment and designing the mechanism to exert their functions or the sense of high grade in such a way as can be mounted and removed. SOLUTION: The installing device for the ashtray or glove compartment has an outer case 1 furnished with a means to install the following mechanisms in such a manner as removable individually; i.e. a takeout direction energizing mechanism B for an ashtray inner case 2 to work when ashtray is to be installed, a lock engaging/disengaging mechanism C for the energizing force where an engaging projection 2c of the ashtray inner case 2 is furnished with an engaging/disengaging piece 40c to make separation through a circular arc motion of an actuator piece 40b centering on a horizontal shaft 40 in association with turning of a lid 3 in the opening direction, a braking mechanism D equipped with a rotary damper 50 having a pinion 50a to mesh with a rack 2d of the ashtray inner case 2, and an engaging/disengaging mechanism E for a compartment inner case 21 to work when the compartment is to be installed.
