PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical receptacle reducing a variation of optical output when performing optical connection by inserting an external connector plug, and also to provide an optical module comprising the optical receptacle. SOLUTION: The optical receptacle 1 is provided with a light transmission member 4, a stub 2 for holding the light transmission member 4, and a receptacle main body 6 fitted to the external connector plug 40. The light transmission member 4 is formed of the same material with that of optical fiber 42 core of the external connector plug 40. In the light transmission member 4, the diameter of the top end part on the side connected with the optical fiber 42 of the external connector plug 40 is equal to a clad diameter of the optical fiber 42. Accordingly, the optical coupling tolerance with respect to the optical fiber 42 of the external connector plug 40 is broadened. Further, the stub 2 is disposed so as to cover the outer circumferential surface of the light transmission member 4 and, therefore, it is prevented to cause damages on the outer circumferential surface of the light transmission member 4.
