PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic endoscope system which can prevent color reproducibility of an ordinary observation image in an ordinary observation mode from being damaged despite the wavelength component same as that of the excitation light can be removed from the light made incident on an objective optical system when a part of light in a visible band is emitted as excitation light from the distal end of an inserting part. SOLUTION: The inserting part 11 of this electronic endoscope 10 is equipped with an objective optical system 114 to form confronting object images on the imaging surface of an imaging element 118 and a rotary filter 116 vertically inserted into the optical path of the light passing through the objective light system 114. A transparent parallel plane plate 116a and an excitation light removing filter 116b are fit in two through holes bored in the rotary filter 116. In a special observation mode in which white light and the excitation light are alternately emitted from the distal end of the inserting part 11, the excitation light removing filter 116b is inserted into the objective optical system 114 only during a period the rotary filter 116 is rotated and the excitation light is emitted from the distal end of the inserting part 11.
