PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus with which the stable cleaning performance of a cleaning member for an electrifying member and the miniaturization of the apparatus are accomplished. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 10 comprises: the electrifying member 52 for electrifying a rotary image carrier 50 while rotating in contact with the rotating image carrier 50; the cleaning member 100 including a brush 104 for cleaning the surface of the electrifying member 52, and a shaft 102 to which the brush 104 is attached; a frame 108 having a long hole 110 in which the end 102A of the shaft 102 of the cleaning member 100 is inserted, and rotatably supporting the electrifying member 52; and a contact/separation mechanism 112 for bringing the cleaning member 100 into contact with the electrifying member 52 and separating it therefrom by a solenoid plunger 124.
