This invention relates to novel humanin-like polynucleotides, polypeptides and antibodies. The invention also describes the related humanin variants. Disclosed herein are the use of the novel humanin-like polynucleotides, polypeptides and antibodies and their variants in methods of preventing and treating disorders that cause neuronal cell death.
