Manufacturing a protected vial (1) involves filling the vial with a medicinal fluid (7); attaching a sealing member (4) to an access opening (3) of vial; and arranging a tight-fitting envelope (6) around the vial by attaching a bottom sticker (602) against a bottom (202) of the vial, and arranging a tight fitting sleeve (601) over entire sidewall (201) of the vial while partly overlapping the bottom sticker along a circumferential edge of bottom. The sleeve is manufactured from a synthetic material and is slid over the vial with little space. A heat treatment is performed in such a way that the sleeve shrinks, thereby fitting itself tightly around the vial.
