The assembly (2) has an internal gas passage to transport compressed oxygen between inlet and outlet gas orifices. Two gas expansions stages are arranged at the internal passage to expand the compressed oxygen. A blocking valve has a rotating actuator unit operable by a user to control the liberation of the expanded oxygen. Stop pins act on the actuator unit to avoid rotation of the actuator unit and liberation of oxygen. An independent claim is also included for portable ambulation equipment having a compressed gas bottle on which an expansion valve assembly is mounted.
