<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a selective method by which smooth hydrolysis can be carried out and simultaneously an aldehyde removed by equilibrium can be recovered. <P>SOLUTION: When producing a compound of general formula (1) by hydrolyzing a compound of general formula (2) by acidic hydrolysis or by hydrolysis while heating a reaction mixture to the boiling point, the hydrolysis is carried out in the presence of a phase containing another organic solvent, and the vapor containing water, acid, the organic solvent and the aldehyde is derived from the reaction mixture, or the vapor containing the water, the acid and the aldehyde are derived from the reaction mixture and successively the vapor or a condensed product thereof is brought into contact with a phase containing the organic solvent. The reaction time for the quantitative hydrolysis by the method is about half of the reaction time achieved by a well-known method. The aldehyde is nearly quantitatively separated from the organic phase after phase separation in the aqueous phase and the organic phase. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
