PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a desiccant which shows high safety when a person takes in the desiccant by accident, with regard to the desiccant usd for a medicine, foodstuff, etc. and also shows excellent moisture absorption characteristics. SOLUTION: The problem can be solved by adding an arginine acidic amino acid salt to the desiccant. That is, the applicable arginine acidic amino acid salt is of a such type that can be obtained in nature, or with the help of a microbe and from a processed product of the microbe or by a chemical synthesis, etc. Besides, the commercial grade product of the amino acid salt can be used. In addition, for the acidic amino acid salt, a glutamate is preferably used.
