PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method suited for manufacturing a magnetic transfer master carrier having a very small magnetic material pattern of small edge roughness, and such a master transfer master carrier. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a magnetic transfer master carrier X1 for writing information in a magnetic recording medium by a magnetic transfer method includes the step of forming a substrate layer 12 for a plating method on a base material 11, the step of forming a resist film on the substrate layer 12, the resist pattern forming step of forming an opening 131 faced by the substrate layer 12 on the resist layer to form a resist pattern 13 having a pattern shape corresponding to information on the substrate layer 12, and the magnetic material pattern forming step of growing a magnetic material on the substrate layer 12 facing the opening 131 by a plating method to form a magnetic material pattern 14 having a pattern shape corresponding to information.
