PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spacer for optical cable capable of enhancing the reliability of optical cable, and to provide an optical cable using the spacer for optical cable. SOLUTION: In the spacer 3 for optical cable, an SZ slot 11 is formed such that a transition part C between adjacent inversion parts A, B draws a locus periodically changing on the developed plane of outer circumferential surface of a spacer 3. Further, an inversion angle of the locus drawn by the transition part C is set to be 60 to 210°. Within the range, a remaining distortion of the optical fiber in a coated optical fiber 5 stored in the SZ slot 11 can be effectively reduced and, moreover, hardly causes external damage on the spacer 3 and the coated optical fiber 5 when producing the spacer 3. Accordingly, by adopting the spacer 3 for the optical cable, the reliability of the optical cable 1 can be more enhanced further. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
