SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR FIRING BRICKS

A method for firing bricks provides a kiln car (1, 101, 201) including furniture with silicon carbide vertical supports (200) to define multiple vertical levels and support crossbeams (38). Low sets of bricks (5) are positioned on a first carriage (15) having a conveyor, near one side of the kiln car (1, 101, 201). A second carriage (65) is extended beneath crossbeams for one level to a position adjacent the first carriage (15). The second carriage (65) includes spaced-apart rollers that interfit between crossbeams (38) for the level when the carriages are raised, so that tops of the rollers are slightly above the crossbeams (38). The rollers convey bricks (5) to a desired position, and the carriages (65) are lowered to rest the bricks on the crossbeams. Another embodiment uses a fork (77) to load and unload crossbeams (86) carrying bricks (5)from the horizontal support beams (85).
