<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform operation start detection and abnormal current detection of an optional unit operating asynchronously with the main unit without using a signal line for exclusive use. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises a means for forming an image on an output medium, a power supply means performing power saving control under stand-by state of the apparatus, an optional unit operating asynchronously with the image forming apparatus and having a means for varying power consumption before starting operation, and a means for detecting variation in current of a power supply to the optional unit. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
