An automatic flushing control for a urinal has a pair of electrodes (1, 3) in the water trap to monitor the concentration of impurities in the water and with a third electrode (2) at the overflow to monitor the change in impurity concentration during the flushing process. The flushing process is stopped when the impurity concentration falls to a clean reference level. A timing control ensures that the flushing process does not exceed a programmed interval.
