PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-grade image forming apparatus which reduces the number of BD sensors, which makes costs low, and which makes an image registration position for each color highly accurate. SOLUTION: In this image forming apparatus, a control means for putting a control signal for a polygon motor into a fixed state is provided in a system which scans a plurality of lasers by means of one polygon mirror and which detects a horizontal synchronization signal by means of one BD sensor. The image forming apparatus computes a horizontal synchronization signal delay amount for each surface, making an allowance for a surface division error of a rotating polygon mirror, from the horizontal synchronization signal, and generates the horizontal synchronization signal of a laser beam generating means which does not have another BD sensor.
