The suspension beam is formed from upper and lower pressings (33, and 37) which are welded along the overlapped joint adjacent to the neutral plane of each suspension beam. The neutral plane extends through the centre of the axle tube (19) which is welded into the socket formed at the wheel end of the beam. Bush (61) is an interference fit into bush sleeve (60) which is welded in a similar manner to the socket formed at the other end of the beam.
