PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize characteristics of a ceramic spacer for securing a gap between panels of a flat display device. SOLUTION: On the ceramic spacer 10 made of ceramic as a main component, in which a conductivity imparting agent is added, which is a structure setting the gap between a pair of panels 11, 12, an average size of ceramic grains is not smaller than 0.35μm and not larger than 5μm. By applying the above average grain size of the ceramic, temperature dependency of the ceramic becomes 8%/°C or lower by the relation between the temperature dependency and the average grain size on the resistance property of the ceramic, and necessary pressure resistance necessary for the structure to set the gap between the pair of panels 11, 12 is obtained.
