The sensor has a high permeability magnetic core (3) magnetized by a trip coil (4) fed by an alternating current. A mobile body (2) such as magnet, creates a virtual air gap in the core. The mobile body according to its position, determines magnetic leakage flow and voltage delivered by detecting coils coupled to the core. The core possesses circular transversal right section. An independent claim is also included for a detection assembly including two magnetic position sensors.
