摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal backlight device essentially hardly generating electromagnetic wave radiation noise, high in the degree of freedom of design of wiring length between a lamp and a power source, and facilitating light modulation for residual image suppression of a liquid crystal display panel or the like. <P>SOLUTION: This liquid crystal backlight device 3 includes: electrodeless discharge lamps 13 forming light sources; a driving alternating current generation part 12 for applying a light emission driving alternating current having a low frequency of 30 Hz to 1 kHz to external electrodes 15 of the electrodeless discharge lamps 13; and a wiring part 13k for electrically connecting the electrodeless discharge lamps 13 to the driving alternating current generation part 12. The light emission state of the electrodeless discharge lamps 13 is changed over between first luminance and second luminance darker than the first luminance with a frequency smaller than a driving A.C. voltage by a light modulation control means 9. In order to reduce impedance in light emission drive of the electrodeless discharge lamps 13 at a set frequency of a light emission drive A.C. voltage, electrode part capacitance formed by the external electrodes 15 of the electrodeless discharge lamps 13 and a translucent insulation tube and impedance adjustment inductance 16 forming a series resonance circuit at a set frequency are formed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
