PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device for an endoscope which illuminates a wide range when a light guide for white light is used and suppresses the generation of heat when a light guide for excitation light is used. SOLUTION: This light source device 20 is equipped with a white light source 30 emitting the white light, a reflector 31, an aperture stop 32 which reduces a light beam diameter of the white light made into parallel light with the reflector 31, and a collecting lens 33 with which the white light with the light beam diameter reduced by the aperture stop 32 is collected to make the collected white light enter the light guide 16 for the excitation light. The light source device 20 is equipped with a switching mechanism 73 for sliding a unit 50 including the aperture stop 32 and a system controller 70 for controlling the switching mechanism 73. The system controller 70 reads out numerical apertures (NA) of the light guide from a ROM 17 connected to a connector pin 31b, slides the unit 50 by controlling the switching mechanism 73 based on the NA, and sets a converging angle of the white light entering the light guide by changing the light beam diameter of the white light.
