<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coil apparatus and a winding method whereby winding turbulence is suppressed. <P>SOLUTION: The coil apparatus 10 has a winding 30 having a circular section and has a reel portion 24 surrounded by two flange portions 22, 23 and a winding axis 21 whereon the winding 30 is wound. In at least one end portion of the winding axis 21 wherein the flange portion 22 is provided, there is provided a positioning recessed portion 25 which is more recessed on the center side of the radial direction of the winding axis 21 than the other portions of the winding axis 21.
