PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for shielding carbon dioxide being less degraded with the elapse of time by a simple means of an application of an aqueous composition giving less loading to an environment. SOLUTION: The method for shielding carbon dioxide in which a film formed by a composition comprising a water expandable synthetic inorganic phyllosilicate with a volume average particulate diameter of 3-50μm and an aqueous dispersion of a hydrophobic resin with a volume average particulate diameter of≤0.5μm is used. The method for shielding carbon dioxide comprises suppressing an exposure of a substrate to carbon dioxide by coating the substrate with a film formed by a composition comprising the water expandable synthetic inorganic phyllosilicate with a volume average particulate diameter of 3-50μm and an aqueous dispersion of a hydrophobic resin with a volume average particulate diameter of≤0.5μm.
