摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a laser scanning optical unit which is compact, capable of setting the arrangement pitch of a plurality of photoreceptors small, and suitable for a tandem type image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The laser scanning optical unit 10A is installed corresponding to each of a plurality of photoreceptor drums 9 which are arranged in parallel. A laser light source 12, a deflector 13, scanning lenses 16 and 18, and reflection mirrors 17a and 17b are housed in a housing 11. The laser beam, which is made incident to a deflector 13 is deflected and scanned in the direction opposite to the direction in which the photoreceptor drum 9 is arranged, passes through the scanning lenses 16 and 18, and is turned back on the reflection mirrors 17a and 17b. The optical path OP of the laser beam after turned back from the final stage reflection mirror 17b passes between planes S1 and S2 which are substantially perpendicular to the rotation axis 13a of the deflector 13 and define the outermost part of the housing 11, and reaches the photoreceptor drum 9.
