The oil pump has pump stages, each provided with rotor and socket wheels (14, 18). The wheel (14) is rotatably supported on a drive shaft (12), and the wheel (18) is axially displaceable on the shaft. The socket wheel exhibits teeth which are brought into engagement with counter teeth that is formed at the rotor wheel. The engagement leads to establishment and/or disconnection of a connection between pump stages.
