<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable device that can effectively use memory by monitoring the status of use and automatically deleting almost unused vocabulary data. <P>SOLUTION: Categorized dictionary data are stored in a dictionary data storage area 9, and the use frequency and last use date/time of every piece of dictionary data are managed in a management table. A control part 3 compares the use frequency or last use date/time in the management table with a preset use frequency or use period.
