PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a high accuracy write, i.e., a high image quality by alternately turning upside down the positions of three positioning shapes provided between adjacent LD units to ensure a relatively wider gap between the positioning shapes than the mounting spacings of the LD units, thereby reducing the variations of laser irradiating position on an image carrier and imaging devices. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is composed of a plurality of LD units disposed on a horizontal straight line, a polygon motor, and a casing for housing the polygon motor and an image forming lens. The LD unit determines the laser irradiating direction, using positioning shapes projecting from three points at the upper or lower transversal center position of a contact part to the casing and the lower or upper transversal both sides positions.
