METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE QUALITY INDICATOR OF HYDROCARBON FUEL

The proposed method for determining the permittivity of liquid hydrocarbon fuel as the quality indicator of the fuel consists in exciting electromagnetic oscillations in the fuel by a sounding signal emitted by an oscillator that is partially immersed in the fuel, determining the length of the oscillator section that is positioned over the surface of the fuel by the time delay of the signal reflected from the surface of the fuel relative to the sounding signal, determining the physical length of the oscillator section that is immersed in the fuel as the difference between the total length of the oscillator and the length of the oscillator section that is positioned over the surface of the fuel, determining the electromagnetic length of the oscillator section that is immersed in the fuel by the time delay of the signal that is reflected from the end surface of the oscillator relative to the signal that is reflected from the surface of the fuel, and determining the permittivity of the fuel as a square of the ratio between the electromagnetic length of the oscillator section that is immersed in the fuel and its physical length.
