摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve emission property by reducing NO<SB>x</SB>while maintaining fuel consumption well in a low load side operating region of an engine. <P>SOLUTION: Cylinders are put in a two-cylinder connected state where burnt gas exhausted from the preceding cylinders 2A, 2D in an exhaust stroke between a pair of cylinders whose exhaust stroke and intake stroke overlap in a partial load region of the engine is led into the succeeding cylinders 2B, 2C in the intake stroke, and gas exhausted from the succeeding cylinders 2B, 2C is led to an exhaust passage. Control is carried out in a special operation mode of performing combustion in the preceding cylinders 2A, 2D and newly supplying fuel to the burnt gas to perform combustion in the succeeding cylinders 2B, 2C. In the special operation mode, fuel injection of the succeeding cylinder portion is controlled by a fuel injection control means. The fuel injection control means controls to inject fuel of the succeeding cylinder portion in the preceding cylinders 2A, 2D at least in the low load side operation region out of the operation region to which the special operation mode is applied, and sets its injection start timing to the predetermined timing in the latter half of the expansion stroke of the preceding cylinders 2A, 2D. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
