PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress defects in blade cleaning even when toner is spherical toner. SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus is equipped with an image carrier 1 which carries a toner image on its surface to perform surface movement and a cleaning device which removes unnecessary toner sticking on the image carrier surface from the image carrier surface by using a cleaning blade 2 whose tip part is made of an elastic body and abuts against the image carrier surface. This cleaning blade is arranged so that the blade tip abuts against the image carrier surface in the counter direction to the surface moving direction. Then the blade tip is constituted to be in a stick state at least during the surface movement of the image carrier and the part where the blade tip abuts against the image carrier surface is so constituted that the distance of movement of a toner passage part of the blade tip in the surface moving direction of the image carrier right after unnecessary toner passes is≤8 [μm].
