PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a centrifuge which detects an excessive imbalance operating condition of a rotor by a signal output of a displacement sensor during the rotation of a drive shaft and by a signal output based on an unevenness component of the rotor, and stops the rotation. SOLUTION: A first signal converter carries out a rectification and smoothness of the pulsating components from the signal output of the displacement sensor 6 detecting the displacement during the rotation of the drive shaft 4, to form an imbalance signal output. When the signal output of the first signal converter becomes to be a predetermined value or more, a control device 7 controlling the number of rotations of a drive portion 5 stops the rotation of the drive portion, and further, a second signal converter gets through only the signal components of the lower frequency than the rotation frequency of the rotor 2 during rotation, in the signal output of the displacement sensor (a low pass filter treatment) to form a self-excited vibration signal output. When the signal output of the second signal converter becomes to be a predetermined value or more, the control device controlling the number of rotations of the drive portion stops the rotation of the drive portion to attain the object.
