The treatment and conversion of heavy hydrocarbon fractions for the production of good quality lubricants and distillates including petrols, kerosenes and gasoil comprises hydrocracking and fractionation, with the elimination of aromatics. The treatment and conversion of heavy hydrocarbon fractions comprises: (1) cracking the charge in the presence of hydrogen and a hydrocracking catalyst in a fluidized-bed reactor to convert at least 10% of the fraction of charge boiling above 370[deg]C into compounds of boiling points lower than 370[deg]C; (2) fractionation of the effluent obtained to recover a primary residue in which at least 85% of the compounds boil above 320[deg]C and containing aromatics; (3) the elimination of the aromatic compounds to obtain an effluent depleted in aromatics(aromatics content less than 30%); and (4) fractionation of the effluent obtained and recovery of a second residue of at least 15% relative to the charge.
