An article position management system capable of accurately specifying the place where an article is present and capable of managing the positions of articles so that no article is left unchecked. Illumination sections (11-14) transmit positional information by light only to specific regions (401-404). A terminal device (31) receives the positional information transmitted from the illumination sections (11-14), and reads article IDs from RFID tags (201-206) attached to the articles (101-106). The terminal device (31) transmits the positional information and the article IDs to a server (51) through a base station (41) of a wireless LAN. The server (51) stores the positional information and the article IDs, transmitted from the terminal device (31), in a manner they are correlated with each other.
