PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for forming a ceramic formed body capable of obtaining the ceramic formed body enhanced in uniformity of cell sizes and their distribution states, and to provide the ceramic formed body. SOLUTION: This process is for forming the ceramic formed body provided with a three-dimensional network structure having a plurality of cells and a plurality of communicating holes, and comprises a first step of preparing ceramic slurry containing carbon, a second step of preparing a coated particle-ceramic slurry arranged body where the coated particles of organic particles, the surfaces of which are coated with a plurality of SiC particles, are uniformly aligned and the ceramic slurry fills the space between the coated particles, a third step of drying the coated particles-ceramic slurry arranged body, a fourth step of forming cells and communicating holes by gasifying the organic particles, a fifth step of infiltrating metal Si reactive with carbon to produce SiC within the cells and the communicating holes, and sintering while reacting a part of the metal Si with carbon, and a sixth step of removing unreacted metal Si.
