The device has a coil arrangement (1) with transmitting coils. A signal generator (11) is provided for producing phase shifted current, where the coils are arranged in such a manner that a traveling magnetic field is produced outside the coils by the current. The magnetic field induces voltage in a receiver coil, where the voltage does not change, if the coil is moved freely in a plane parallel to the arrangement plane. An independent claim is also included for a method for inductive energy transfer.
