PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inorganic scintillator having sufficiently quick build-up of fluorescence generated by the absorption of radiation and generating sufficiently small noise of fluorescence. SOLUTION: The inorganic scintillator generating scintillation by radiation is composed of a metal oxide containing Lu, Gd, Ce and Si, has a crystal form belonging to a monoclinic system of a space group C2/c and satisfies the conditions expressed by formula 1A: äA<SB>Lu</SB>/(A<SB>Lu</SB>+A<SB>Gd</SB>)}<0.50 wherein A<SB>Lu</SB>is the number of Lu atoms in the crystal and A<SB>Gd</SB>is the number of Gd atoms in the crystal.
