PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic detection device that can, especially enhance magnetostriction in a plurality of thin-film layers for composing a fixed magnetic layer in a whole, and can firmly fix the fixed magnetic layer. SOLUTION: In the plurality of thin-film layers for composing the fixed magnetic layer 23, a first magnetostriction enhancement layer 22 is joined to a first thin-film layer 23a that does not directly contribute to GMR effect, the magnetostriction constant of the first thin-film layer 23a is enhanced from the outside, and second magnetostriction enhancement layers 23c2, 23c4 are inserted inside the second thin-film layer 23c, thus enhancing the magnetostriction constant of the second thin-film layer 23c from the inside. As a result, the magnetostriction constant of the entire fixed magnetic layer 23 can be increased while the GMR effect is maintained satisfactorily, coercive force can be also enhanced, and the fixed magnetic layer 23 can be magnetized and fixed appropriately.
