<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus with an inexpensive configuration by carrying out set detection of a recording medium transfer apparatus without using a special sensor. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with: a recording medium transfer apparatus 30 transferring a toner image formed in a first image carrier 1 to a recording medium directly from the first image carrier 1 or through a second image carrier 10; a toner density detection apparatus 40 forming the image with a varied toner image density and detecting the density of the toner image with the varied density; a mechanism by which the recording medium transfer apparatus 30 can be made nearer to and away from the second image carrier 10; and a shutter 50 for prevention of soiling preventing sticking of scattered toner to the toner density detection apparatus 40, etc. The shutter 50 is operated linked to a disjunction operation of the recording medium transfer apparatus 30 from the second image carrier 10 and the toner density detection apparatus 40 is operated during a disjunction operation of the recording medium transfer apparatus 30. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
