<p>The invention relates to a process for preparing iodinated fatty acids, iodinated fatty acid esters and stable iodinated derivatives thereof, being of pharmaceutical quality level and in fluid state. The preparation process consists of iodohydrination in an organic medium, by the reaction of alkylsilylated derivatives, e.g. trimethylsilyl chloride or trimethylchlorosilane, with an alkaline iodide, such as sodium iodide, followed by the in situ formation of hydroiodic acid in the presence of water, said hydroiodic acid reacting for example with fatty acid esters and in particular with methyl esters of rape seed oil fatty acids that may be used as a biofuel for motor vehicle engines, there being obtained a low-cost product that is used in therapy, especially for treating iodine deficiency-related goitre.</p> |
