A liquid-crystalline resin comprising structural units derived from at least two aromatic diols, wherein when the resin is held in a helium atmosphere at a temperature higher by 10°C than the melting point (provided that the resin is held at 335°C when the melting point is below 325°C) for 30 minutes, the amounts of the acetic acid gas, phenol gas, and carbon dioxide generated from the liquid-crystalline resin are 100 ppm or smaller, less than 20 ppm, and less than 100 ppm, respectively. The liquid-crystalline resin is reduced in metal corrosion, glass clouding, molding blistering, etc. Also provided is a composition containing the resin.
