PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further quickly start engine control in the proper timing corresponding to an actual rotational position of an engine, in an engine control device for starting the engine control by using a stopping position estimated when stopping the engine. SOLUTION: Stopping position estimating processing 400 is performed for estimating the stopping position when stopping the engine, and crank position specifying processing 360 is performed for specifying a rotational position of the engine from its stopping position estimate and the edge of a cam signal when staring the engine. Since time is occasionally required for specifying the rotational position in this processing, when starting the engine, cylinder discriminating processing 340 for specifying the rotational position from a change pattern of the cam signal and crank signal interrupt processing for specifying the rotational position by using a missing tooth of a crank signal are performed, and when specifying the rotational position first by any of these respective processing, the engine control is started on the basis of its specified rotational position.
