PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption and access time in various types of data storage systems. SOLUTION: Using a low power disk drive, data is cached between it and a high power disk drive. In more detail, a disk drive system for a computer equipped with high power and low power modes has the low power disk drive (LPDD) and high power disk drive (HPDD). A control module includes an LUB module for identifying the minimum use block (LUB) in the LPDD. When the control module receives at least one of data storing request and data retrieval request, the control module selectively transfers the LUB to the HPDD in the low power mode.
