PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for controlling operation of the reciprocating compressor capable of improving operation efficiency of the reciprocating compressor by selectively connecting one of control routes of a general mode and a power saving mode preset by control signal and controlling stroke of the reciprocating compressor through the connected control route. SOLUTION: The device for controlling operation of the reciprocating compressor comprises a microcomputer 40 outputting control signal for controlling stroke of the reciprocating compressor 10A, and an electric circuit part 10 selectively connecting one of the control routes of the general mode and the power saving mode preset by the control signal and controlling stroke of the reciprocating compressor 10A through the connected control route.
