PROJECTOR AND ITS IMAGE CREATION APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively correct an astigmatism due to a polarized light separating element in a projector using the parallel flat plate-like polarized light separating element arranged to be inclined with respect to an axial ray of image information light. SOLUTION: The projector illuminates a reflection type light valve with an illumination luminous flux via the parallel flat plate-like polarized light separating element 11, guides the image information light subjected to polarization modulation by the reflection type light valve to the imaging optical system 13 via the polarized light separating element 11 and projects and images the light by the imaging optical system. The projector has an astigmatism correction element 12 for correcting the astigmatism generated due to the inclination of the axial ray L of the image information light with respect to the polarized light separating element 11 on the optical path of the image information light. The astigmatism correction element 12 is a form of the transparent parallel flat plate and is arranged to incline reverse from the polarized light separating element 11 with respect to the virtual plane orthogonal with the axial ray of the image information light.
