PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sludge thickener capable of allowing sludge to flow through a liquid-permeating passage, thereby increasing concentration. SOLUTION: The sludge passage 1 is constituted so that a bottom plate 7 is made liquid-permeable, an inlet 2 side is formed into a descending slope 4, an outlet 3 side is formed into an ascending slope 5, and a part changing from the descending slope to the ascending slope is made as a bottom 6, and a flow-control plate 12 with a brush 11 is fit and moves to sweep the bottom plate 7 by the brush 11. A flow-control device serving also as a sweeping device is provided, allowing the control plate 12 with the brush 11 to pass the descending slope 4, bottom 6 and ascending slope 5 of the sludge passage 1 successively. Sludge flows down the descending slope 4 while being dammed up by the flow-control plate 12, retains at the bottom 6 separating from the flow-control plate 12, then the flow-control plate 12 reaching the bottom 6 collides with sludge to push up at the ascending slope, to drop sludge from the outlet 3.
